The Hollow by Jessica Verday
Main Characters: Abbey and Caspian Crane(Vander)

Summary:

When Abbey’s best friend, Kristen, vanishes at the bridge near Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, everyone else is all too quick to accept that Kristen is dead… and rumors fly that her death was no accident. Abbey goes through the motions of mourning her best friend, but privately, she refuses to believe that Kristen is really gone. Then she meets Caspian, the gorgeous and mysterious boy who shows up out of nowhere at Kristen’s funeral, and keeps reappearing in Abbey’s life. Caspian clearly has secrets of his own, but he’s the only person who makes Abbey feel normal again… but also special.

Just when Abbey starts to feel that she might survive all this, she learns a secret that makes her question everything she thought she knew about her best friend. How could Kristen have kept silent about so much? And could this secret have led to her death? As Abbey struggles to understand Kristen’s betrayal, she uncovers a frightening truth that nearly unravels her—one that will challenge her emerging love for Caspian, as well as her own sanity.

Jenny’s Thoughts:

To start, I’d like to say anyone who doesn’t like this book, while I may value every individual’s opinion, I can still think you’re crazy all I want. This book is amazing. I have to say I predicted the ending a little bit in advance but nonetheless it was a really good read. I could put it down but after a while it itched at me if I wasn’t reading it.

The connection Caspian and Abbey have is authentic and genuine. Not to mention, come on, he’s got to be hot. Ha ha. The characters are well rounded, from Katy and Nikolas to Kristen, Abbey’s late best friend. Something else I found very unique and shocking about it is Abbey’s hobby (which I won’t tell the name of in case some of you haven’t read it yet). I’ve read a ton of books, and yet I’ve never come across one with that particular avocation.

In my personal opinion it is a little disappointing that Caspian is a ghost but I think it’s incredibly sweet that he decided to show himself to Kristen when he knew she was in so much pain. He knew she needed a friend. Hopefully in the books to come they can find a way to be together. That would be absolutely amazing. But I am happy with the interaction between them even being separated by life and death.

I am so happy to read your review. I wanted this book when I first heard about it, them I heard SO many bad reviews, I pushed it to my library list. I am so glad you liked and couldn’t put it down. Yay!

To be completely honest, that’s why I wrote the review. My sister had just gotten all these books in the mail and I told her I’d read them all. All of them she said she heard was pretty good, then she said all she read about the Hollow were bad things. So she told me if I liked it after reading to do the review. I’m so bad at actually doing that, usually I just skip the review and go right to the next book but she wouldn’t let me. I’m glad you liked it. =) Hope you like the book as much as I did.

Wow, I was also surprised to see such a postitive response to The Hollow! I was originally considering not reading it because of all the bad and medicore ratings I’ve seen, but after your review I might. Thanks for the review! It’s nice to see both sides. :)

Nice review! Despite the reviews I’ve read regarding this title thus far (and most were pretty unfavorable), this still remains on my “want-to-read” list. May I suggest checking out the UK cover? Another blogger friend of mine posted a review earlier today and it had that one pictured….it’s pretty good, kind of prefer to the one we have over here.

I have seen it! I almost ordered it instead! But didn’t want to pay the extra shipping for it! Both are lovely, but I love the simplicity of the UK cover!

I am surprised by this review, to be honest. I haven’t read the book yet but I’ve read a lot of reviews saying it’s not that good. It just goes to show everything comes down to taste.

I totally understand why you’re surprised by the review. Any of the other books I’ve reviewed (not many I know) or any of the books my sister liked I would have liked, if you agreed with us on those a little, trust me on this one. It’s not the greatest, but it is very good. It all comes down to the fact that it’s basically a cliff hanger and however many books it has maybe it will wrap up nicely, but this one ends badly and maybe that’s why people hate it so much. BUT THERE IS ANOTHER OR ARE MORE BOOKS. haha. Sorry I get excited. lol
