Waiting on Wednesday (5)

I have always loved reading, but once upon a time, I didn’t. Read that is, not dislike reading. Why is simple – I grew up reading, but I grew up without a sense of direction for reading. The library was a giant place with books lining the walls except when I walked in I had no idea what I was looking for. I read Stephen King, and I read random books I managed to pick up from school. Then even in school, reading got me in trouble because I did it instead of the other things I was supposed to do, so I stopped reading. Even after school all I read was my sisters Sarah Dessen books, and not that Sarah Dessen isn’t amazing, but when reading her books you lack any real diversity, of any kind.

Two years ago, I went into a Borders with my sister and when I left I had the most gorgeous book accompanying me: Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr. From there on out, I knew exactly where to go in the library or a bookstore, I absolutely fell in love with her writing and her story, which lead me to books like it. Which ended up as my introduction to YA, and my renewed love for reading, and that explains so much as to why this weeks WoW is what it is:

Radiant Shadows by Melissa Marr

Radiant Shadows (Wicked Lovely #4) by Melissa Marr

Hunger for nourishment.

Hunger for touch.

Hunger to belong.

Half-human and half-faery, Ani is driven by her hungers.
Those same appetites also attract powerful enemies and uncertain allies, including Devlin. He was created as an assassin and is brother to the faeries’ coolly logical High Queen and to her chaotic twin, the embodiment of War. Devlin wants to keep Ani safe from his sisters, knowing that if he fails, he will be the instrument of Ani’s death.

Ani isn’t one to be guarded while others fight battles for her, though. She has the courage to protect herself and the ability to alter Devlin’s plans—and his life. The two are drawn together, each with reason to fear the other and to fear for one another. But as they grow closer, a larger threat imperils the whole of Faerie. Will saving the faery realm mean losing each other?
